Nowadays, na only few people dey make international calls unto say Over-the-top (OTT) platforms like Whatsapp, Skype, Wechat, Facebook, Viber and IMO don dey.
Dis one don cause global revenue loss of $386 billion, from 2012 to 2018 for d telecoms operators. So, MTN, Airtel, GLO and 9Mobile don comot come dey lament, dey beg say make Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) epp dem to stop OTT services.
No be only revenue losses dem dey cause o. Telecommunications companies follow claim say dese services dem dey affect dia network development.
Dem still go on talk say d OTT Platforms dey use traditional Mobile Network Operator (MNO) infrastructure wey dey drive big big revenues from advertising; so dem don beg NCC to block or put some kind restrictions ontop services like WhatsApp, etc, so dem go fit to recover dia losses.
Dis kind tin don weak me sef, I suggest say make dem leave OTT plays alone based on say we users dey buy data from dese same Telcos so we go fit do WhatsApp, Skype, etc.
As dem dey lament unto say dey don lose from voice/video calls, na still dem dey rejoice onto d better money wey dem dey make from data.
NCC don kom make better point as dem say:
“Instead, make d telcos dey creative come up with better package wey go carry people minds comot from OTT plays.
